What is a doula

Doulas are women who support pregnant women and their families mentally and physically throughout pregnancy, during and after childbirth.

Doula supports daily life during the period of pregnancy when feeling up and down, when pregnant woman is confused by changes in the body, and during childbirth, where it is not clear how long labor will take, and until motherhood of postnatal period is on track.

Birth doulas have understanding and knowledge of the pregnancy and childbirth process and use various methods.

Midwives are medically involved with mother and baby, and birth doulas provide mental and physical support to pregnant women and their families before, during and after childbirth.

I think there are many concerns about giving birth in the Netherlands.

  • Before childbirth

    Postpartum doulas provide relaxation massage, soak yourself in a herbal bath, help squeeze the pelvis that is distorted during pregnancy, and provide support for mothers.

Even if the childbirth takes a long time, Doula will look at the childbirth status, talk to the pregnant woman and her family at the time of rest and when they can eat, so they can relax and start the childbirth. Also, having a birth doula gives the family time to call their relatives or workplace for a status report or to finish their children’s business.

When the baby is born, a doula will visit her home once and talk to her family about childbirth.
